Ethical Investments: The campaign continues

University shows an initial positive responce to the calls for an ethical investment policy after the success of the Ethics4Essex campaign!

People and Planet were contacted by the Rabbit in the Autumn term after journalists there had worked hard to get access to the Universities investment portfolio which was reluctantly released using the Freedom of Information Act. People and Planet were asked to comment on the findings. Essex's £8.5 million worth of investments managed by Merrill Lynch, despite being specifically for charities, included companies who are well know for having terrible records for environmental and human rights abuses. Over recent years the investments of a lot of universities around the country have been made public and there have been some vibrant successful and ongoing campaigns to pressurise universities to set a good example by divesting from and therefore withdrawing support for unethical companies.
